HISTORICAL RESEARCH · ASSET GROWTH

Do companies that grow their assets more slowly perform better?

Some companies expand rapidly. Others grow more cautiously. We are investigating whether these differences have any meaningful relationship with subsequent stock returns.

This is a research question, not a claim that one group of stocks outperforms another.

01 / THE IDEA

Why investigate asset growth?

When a business grows, the amount of assets it owns can increase. But growth alone does not tell us whether management has used shareholders’ capital well.

Our hypothesis asks whether stocks from companies with lower asset growth behave differently from those with higher asset growth. A plausible idea is not a proven investment rule.

02 / THE EXPERIMENT

How was the idea tested?

1
Measure company growth

Use historical financial information to examine changes in the assets reported by companies.

2
Compare selection rules

Rank stocks by asset growth and examine different groups and portfolio-selection variants.

3
Review the model and its limitations

Recorded simulations include a twelve-sleeve historical model. Its stored performance series tracks realized outcomes, not continuous market valuation of open positions.

03 / THE EVIDENCE

What have we learned so far?

The tests are recorded, but no investment conclusion has been approved for publication. In particular, the existing return series cannot be presented as the value of a normally priced investment portfolio.

We therefore cannot currently say from the published evidence that slow-growing companies outperform, or show a trustworthy comparison with a market benchmark.

No performance chart yetNot because the question is uninteresting, but because a chart without the right calculation and context could mislead.
Technical methodology and source notes

Recorded research families include factor analysis and historical portfolio simulations. The portfolio model uses ranked asset-growth selections and the stored series identifier TWELVE_SLEEVE_REALIZED.

The stored series is explicitly marked REALIZED_ONLY_12_SLEEVE_NORMALIZED_NAV and not_mark_to_market=true. Its normalized values do not represent independently verified returns from an investable portfolio.

Detailed test definitions, signal timing and source lineage are maintained in the research database. This public note does not publish unreviewed numeric results, an inferred benchmark, or a hypothetical return claim.
